Since late 2005, our team has been using ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 exclusively. One of our projects required us to look into a portal solution. Of course our favorite has always been the Rainbow Portal released by Duemetri.
The Anant Team started to work on a little project this past December to port Rainbow 2006 (ASP.NET 1.1) to the new and exiting ASP.NET 2.0.
The initial compiles were disheartening. Every time we knocked out a few hundred errors, we'd open up other Pandora's Boxes full of issues to fix. Visual Studio's refactoring and name spacing tools in the context menu helped a lot.
As we started telling people about what we were doing , we found out that there were others as well working towards the same goal. Mark Gregory ( AU ) and Emanuelle De Andreis ( IT ) of
Duemetri were working on their forks as well. This past week,
Eric Ramseur (CIO of Anant) struggled through it with the help of
Manu (Lead Developer of Rainbow) and
Scott Guthrie (ASP.NET Program Manager).
The code is available through the
Novell Forge Project. ASP.NET Developers are welcome to join us in our efforts to build a better portal.
