Maintaining a workforce is difficult and complex. When dealing with one or two people, it’s easy to manage the information for each employee or staff member. As a company grows there are lots of pieces of information that you must keep on file: past employees, resumes, performance reviews, contracts, current employees, IRS forms, direct deposit info, emergency info, prospective employees, etc. As you can see, there is a pattern that is starting to emerge. All the different types of people in the social business graph that make up the company are different things at different times and at each time the enterprise builder needs to store different information on them. There are different tools available to manage the information that the HR manager needs to keep. This is a new class of software called HRMS (Human Resource Management Systems). Of course as with CRMs, the software won’t fix a process or people problem. It may introduce some structure and some process but if the people don’t buy into it or are improperly trained, it will only make the problem worse.
