In Cassandra Lunch #83: Aiven Managed Cassandra, we introduce Aiven’s Managed Cassandra offering and show how we can connect to Aiven with Node.js and CQLSH! Aiven’s Managed Cassandra offers a fully managed service of open-source Apache Cassandra that is deployable to AWS, GCP, Azure, Digital Ocean, and UpCloud.
Aiven offers automatic backups, which occur every 24 hours with the ability to restore the latest backup. Aiven additionally offers SSTableloader support and terrafo rm support to aid in the migration process from on-premise to cloud or hybrid architecture.
Given the nature of managed services, Aiven offers VPC peering access from AWS, GCP, or Azure private networks. Additionally, you can expect 99.99% uptime and support. Aiven also makes it easy to upgrade your Cassandra version with a single click.
Aiven offers a no-credit-card free trial, i.e. 300 credits / 30 days, so you can play around with Aiven without hurting your wallet. You can find some getting started instructions for Aiven’s Managed Cassandra service here: https://help.aiven.io/en/articles/1803299-getting-started-with-aiven-for-cassandra
Aiven additionally offers integrations / features that can be added easily:
In the video of Cassandra Lunch #83: Aiven Managed Cassandra, we have a demo walkthrough that is done via Gitpod, Aiven, and CQLSH, in other terms, this entire walkthrough can be done without have to download a single thing.
Here are the repositories that were used the walkthrough as well so that you can follow along. In the demo, we create a keyspace and insert a record using Node.js in Aiven via the first repository. Using the second repository, we use CQLSH to connect to Aiven to do some Cassandra operations as well. Be sure to check out the video below and don’t forget to like and subscribe while you are there!
